On arrival at FARAWAY, the first thing you notice are the Wow views through big picture frame windows in all the main rooms, each aligned to a different horizon aspect, with the double length window seat in the living room beckoning you to settle in. The kitchen is a great place to linger at any time of day. It is the real heart of the house and pampers the senses with copper and brass cladding, granite benchtops, easy to operate appliances and chilled sparkling filtered rainwater on tap.
The treetop birdbath just outside the kitchen sliding window offers mesmerising entertainment that rivals the large Frame TV in the living room. Step out onto the ship’s prow balcony with a glass of something appropriate, and revel in the proximity of the daily local boat traffic.
The inhouse libraries offer a diverse and eclectic selection of books, CDs and DVDs. Other pastimes include a collection of board games, jigsaw puzzles and pop-up books. Artworks pepper the house.
The ensuite bathrooms ooze luxury. Sensuous dark tiled interiors, granite top vanity units with side-lit, anti-fog makeup mirrors, double header shower bays with footrest rails and landscape strip windows, floor heating and ceiling heat lamps, heated towel rails and steam switch exhaust fans.
Comfort is delivered throughout, from the quality of the Tasmanian-made couches, armchairs, beds and bed linen, through to the individual air-conditioner units in each of the three bedrooms and living zones, and a mood-setting gas wall fire in the dining room. A whole-of-house sound system is fed from the living room or by Bluetooth, with stereo speaker feeds in all of the bedrooms, the art studio, kitchen and courtyard, or switch over to individual room systems.
The courtyard’s main feature is a monumental granite wall boasting an inbuilt woodfired oven, and a pigeonholed Weber barbeque. Combined with the fire pit, boulder seating, sinks and a six-and-a-half-metre long-table, the courtyard invites outdoor relaxation and dining, especially attractive when the kitchen window wall is slid open to connect the two spaces.
Wander down the garden paths to connect with the foreshore walk to access some of the tiny private beaches, or grab the fishing rods and bait from the freezer, and head down to the Lady Barron wharf to try your luck fishing for squid or whiting or kingfish.
